In her first book, Recollections About Race: Getting to the Roots and Healing, Janis shares her experiences with micro-aggressions and racially motivated encounters growing up Black in America. Memories of her experiences began to surface during the social unrest of the summer of 2020 following the murder of George Floyd. Her second book, Poetically Black: Reflections on African American Joy, Sorrow, and Healing, Janis shares the struggles and triumphs of the African American experience through poetry. It is an extension of her first book, illustrating the internal world of a community grappling with mental well-being and dignity while navigating a double identity to find peace and healing.
Before becoming a self-published author, Janis posted articles and poems on relationships, grief, loss and spirituality. She enjoys interacting with fellow writers on HubPages, Medium and on social media platforms. She waits on her muse to bring forth the next article or poem to share.
